Individual Project

This project was my submission to the Config Makeathon. While the event was two weeks, I joined late and spent one week building my entry. Bubbles allows you to draw simple prompts and share your bubble with friends. Everyone can contribute their drawings to create a silly world that can be shared with others!

initial designs

I wanted to make it feel whimsical and I was also inspired by the frutiger aero aesthetic. Initially, I was going to make it an aquarium with ocean themed drawing prompts.

However, after creating the blue sky and field, I felt that a nature theme was more fitting.

some iterations

Build something with purpose and meaning, something that improves your life, your community, or the world.

I felt that as I grew up and got older, everyone started living in their own bubbles, keeping to themselves. I wanted to create a fun activity that people can do together as an act of merging bubbles. This reminded me of games like Skribbl.io and Gartic Phone so I decided to make drawing the main activity.

I wanted to see how far I could get designing the core interface based on this idea in Figma before bringing it to Figma Make to get the functionality working.

The generated UI for the share and new drawing functionality felt very generic so I went back to Figma and designed a more whimsical version of the UI instead. This included creating the bubble buttons and pop ups when you press share with friends.

reflection

As this was my first time bringing Figma designs into Figma Make, I found that it was extremely easy to take my designs and turn them into functional prototypes or even applications. With more time, I would have liked to polish my designs to make them fit the frutiger aero aesthetic better. I would have also liked to add more prompts for people to draw and include a wider variety of animations for each. Overall, I would use this hybrid approach again, making sure to include detailed prompts of what I would like to accomplish for Figma Make.
